How much changed

Shopify announced 19 tracked changes in Q3 2026, one more than the 18 announced in Q2 2026. Volume was close to flat from one quarter to the next.

Of the 19, 18 require action from developers. Only one is informational.

The Admin GraphQL API had the most changes, with 10 of the 19. That is more than half of the quarter's total.

Notice and what to act on next

Many Q3 changes gave little warning. The median notice for changes announced in the quarter was 14 days, and the range ran from none at all to 365 days. A change with no notice leaves no time to plan, so it is worth checking the changelog regularly rather than waiting for a deadline to appear.

Seven tracked removals are due in Q4 2026. Before those, six changes in our list have removal dates in September, and all six require action.

In date order: the Admin GraphQL API Functions surface goes on 10 September. The POS UI Extensions Session API goes on 17 September. The Admin GraphQL API automaticDiscounts goes on 18 September. The Events & webhooks API and the Admin GraphQL API marketCurrencySettingsUpdate both go on 22 September. Shopify CLI theme commands authentication for password protected storefronts goes on 23 September. Check each against your apps and themes first, starting with the earliest dates.

Developer adoption

Weekly downloads rose across most of the packages we track in Q3 2026. Shopify CLI ended the quarter at 580,251 weekly downloads (4-week average), up 51%, and the Shopify API library reached 596,011, up 43%. App Bridge React (340,766) and App Bridge types (357,277) rose 43% and 42%. Hydrogen reached 76,378 (+34%) and Hydrogen React 116,027 (+47%). UI extensions rose 87% to 312,442, while Polaris React rose 20% to 276,758. Two packages did not follow the pattern: the Remix app template was almost flat at 75,707 (+2%), and UI extensions (React) fell 6% to 61,459. These counts include CI and mirrors, so read them as direction, not as numbers of developers.

The app template figures show a move from Remix to React Router. The React Router template reached 177,470 weekly downloads, up 110%, and its share of the two templates went from 53.3% at the end of Q2 to 70.1% at the end of Q3.

Polaris shows a similar shift. The Polaris web components types package reached 203,916 weekly downloads, up 118%. Its share against Polaris React rose from 28.9% to 42.4% over the quarter. Polaris React still has the larger share.
